The Spartan Challenge was a campaign run by the retail chain Spar. The campaign was designed to engage with as many people using Facebook Connect. The campaign was based around the Dublin Marathon and involved members of the public signing up and campaigning to get the most votes from their friends and family. The users could do this by send directing people to their unique profile page on the Spartan site by sharing their page via email and on Facebook. All these applicants were short listed to become the Spartans the lucky few that get to trained by a top trainer and nutritionist as well as get free top of line sports gear.
The site contained a number of features to manage this campaign including the profile section with voting mechanism, a blog featuring post from the trainers and competitors, photo and video gallery sharing helpful training information with the public and also a map feature that let site users add jogging routes they use and also see the routes recommended by the trainers.
